RE: BIG CHANGES ARE COMING SOON (Nov 15 2023)
I talked to the folks at Good Sam a little while ago and it sounds like they've got a handle on the permissions problem with the logins. Try it again and see if it works now.
If your username has spaces in it, try adding underscores where the spaces are. So if your name is Eat At Joes, try logging in as Eat_At_Joes
And as far as staying logged in goes, the new site has a lot more security measures than RV.NET does, so your passwords need to be more complex and you have to sign in more often. I don't know that this is something that can be changed.
Thanks Dave! They did fix it, and I am logged in now.

RE: BIG CHANGES ARE COMING SOON (Nov 15 2023)
I followed all steps and when I reset password here is the message I got.
You do not have sufficient privileges for this resource or its parent to perform this action.
This is what I get too. Anyone have a suggestion, as to what next?

RE: Honda Pilot Towing
Welcome to the forum!
If you already owned the Pilot or similar, it would likely work for a trailer you are describing.
Since you are thinking of purchasing a vehicle, a 1/2 ton truck would be a much better choice. It would open up your trailer choices, not forcing you to pass on one, that might be just a bit much for the SUVs.

RE: How to manually expand a slide out
If no power, no battery, you could use jumper cables from your tow vehicle battery to camper cables to extend slide. Just be sure of proper pos/neg hookup!

Welcome to the forum!
If you are looking for a hole for your manual crank, they are often on the opposite side of trailer than slide.

RE: BIG CHANGES ARE COMING SOON (Nov 15 2023)
^^ Most times, change is for the best.
In this case, change or die, leaves no question!
It will most certainly be an improvement, as no one makes a large investment to go backwards. Fear of the unknown? Will some learning be required? Probably take a bit of thought, which is good.
I lost my posting ability, long ago, due to a glitch, or maybe I was banned? :) I have been using Good Sam open roads ever since. The print seemed a bit inferior to RV.NET, so hoping new forum shows improvement there.
Hoping to still be able to access my old private messages?

RE: Shout out to Dometic
Good to know, thanks for sharing!
Many of these companies are talked down, due to some ones bad experience, but most don't tell of a good experience like yours. I've had good experiences talking to/dealing with Lippert, when so many talk them down.

RE: I'm curious to know what you would do?
If you can afford it and I know you can, buy what you want plain and simple!
Well said...
Yup...pretty much what I said on first page.
It's all about your personal budget/spendable wealth. If spending an additional 10K is going to cause you to stay home, not afford fuel, or enjoy doing fun things, keep whatcha got.
No one wants to get bent over, but seems a good price being offered on the new truck!

RE: DeadWood
While the Deadwood area has many CGs, many will close up after Labor day. I have a few favorites, about 6-7 miles south of Deadwood on 385.
It gets cold at night in that area, the reason many close. It can be very cold in October at Deadwood area altitude. Lots of snow as early as Nov 1st, and after. Great skiing, and snowmobiling area.

RE: I'm curious to know what you would do?
I would take the new truck, gaining a year of trade-in value for the next new truck. That will cut the 4k 14k difference in half, when the time comes to move up again.
Someone on a tight budget, may think differently, but I don't think that is the case for either of us.

Could it just be from having your fan setting on low, or high, rather than auto?

RE: How important is 90 degree turning?
https://i.imgur.com/yVRrqAwl.jpg
OP...here is a pic of my rig, with B&W no-slide, hooked up. It has pin centered over R/A, which is 41"s behind the cab. It allows plenty of turn/backing clearance with my FW, which has rounded corners (EZ-turn), designed to not need a long bed truck. I could be 38"s behind cab, and still be confident.

RE: 5th Wheel Rails with 4 bolts
I know Reese made a 4-bolt rail system, but I've no experience with it. The 10-bolt system is more secure, and likely the reason it was more popular. Many times the installer just used 8 of the ten 1/2" bolts.
Four 5/8" grade 8 bolts into the frame, should be secure, when torqued properly. I would check them often to begin with.

RE: WTH ! ! ! Tires
Looks like a road hazard to me. You could change out with your spare, if you wanted to stretch another year, with no long distance travel in mind. If a separation though, the other tires may be soon to do the same.
Yup, safe bet, all new tires! Got my new tires/wheels from Gallagher tire, right next door to you. Good price, very helpful sales guy!
Jerry
Gallagher Tire in Pottstown? What did you get from them?
^^Spring City, Pa, but may be same as Pottstown, as Phone is the same?
I got new Provider STs mounted on new Vesper wheels, purchased as a combo. Sales guy sent pics of actual tires/wheels showing the DOT date code. They had 13 combos, my size, in stock, all similar date. Fast free shipping to my door. Bill Patroski, sales guy, took pics with his phone, while on his lunch, messaged to my phone.
You likely know him, since yall live in Pa.:B

RE: How important is 90 degree turning?
IMO, twisting to 90 degrees is just foolish, adds unnecessary stress to tires/wheels/suspension.
As to the need...being a TT owner now, do you turn or back to 90 degrees? Of course you don't, you would hit truck/trailer.
I have no issue turning/backing with my Ford standard bed, using a B&W non-sliding hitch. I'm more concerned about height clearance, with a FW, than hitting my cab.
Nope, you're not missing anything, except that your overthinking the angle needed when towing a FW. Just like the TT, just a bit of pull forward to straighten, before continuing to back, is just common sense when backing any trailer.

RE: Bedroom cable slide is jerking
There is normally a resettable breaker not far from battery, just inside the basement wall. This can cause stopping/starting, but if ratchet sound is heard, I'd think something is binding? I'm not familiar with the cable slide system though.

JIMNLIN said:
"If your trailer has the notched/rounded front corners made for short bed trucks I doubt you need a sliding hitch if the pin is located zero over the trucks rear axle.
GM has a 43" C/A dimension (cab to trucks rear axle)...longer than Rams or Fords C/A."
^Agree, a sliding hitch is not needed. A B&W 3700 would be a good hitch choice, for the OEM puck system. While not a slider, it has some ahead/back adjustment.
This sounds like a great truck to tow your FW, and not a bad price IMO.
